Kodak Black Exposed!

Hey Metropolitans,

Just a little update, have you seen the recent Kodak Black exposure?! Kodak may be back and making new catchy hits, however he has made his homecoming a quite awkward welcome. The new Instagram live feature kind of got him featured in other ways he couldn't have imagined as he eagerly filmed whilst in the shower. Awks!!! Long Time No Speak... ✨

Hey Metropolitans,

I know that I have been absent from the blogging world for a VERY long time. I should have no excuses but I guess life just got in the way. However, I plan to make a change. 2016 is just around the corner, and I know probably most of you are bored with hearing people constantly raving about their New Years resolutions, and it usually tends to be those who do it for a week (a month if they are really dedicated) and then eventually slip back into their old ways. Nevertheless, I plan to change and firmly stick by my newfound New Years resolution to provide my Metropolitans with content that can really touch them. I plan to give this blog a refresh also, to not only base it on fashion, beauty and style but also current events. With all of these changes I hope I can enrich my viewers with content which can truly benefit them.

New content shall be uploaded soon!

Chanel 'Feminism' Show At Paris Fashion Week

Hey Metropolitans,

I have taken a break from blogging however I am now back in full spring to deliver to you the latest fashion news. For example, the controversial show which happened at Chanel today during Paris Fashion Week.

After, Emma Watson's (Hermione from Harry Potter, in case you didn't know) moving speech for the #HeForShe campaign on feminism it seems like feminism is very in fashion as Karl Lagerfeld has jumped right onto the bandwagon.

However, this has caused a mini hurricane in the fashion world as some say through the repetition of slogans and big slogan posters being held by the Chanel models at the end of the show, has given the wrong perception of what feminism is and should be. It is to allow women to be seen as equal to men within society: no more, no less. Others also disagree with this as it may just seem as if Karl Lagerfeld is only doing this to help Chanel's new collection to have more publicity rather than for the actual core of feminism.

What do you guys think? Do fashion and feminism go along or is this just another publicity stunt with the backdrop of feminism?

The Summer Smokey Eye

Hey Metropolitans,

'It's all in the eyes...' Is the fashion motto this season as we are enchanted by deep bronzes and 90's chic, an iconic look rocked by Kate Moss in the 90's and made legendary. This look is seen on the Nina Ricci catwalk also as it channels cool summer vibes. Now you are probably wondering 'how to do a smokey eye in the summer?' Well smokey eyes are not just for the autumn/winter seasons, it can be worn during the summer too, and paired with mascara is an easy way to look contemporary and fresh. Here's how:

PREP. It is always good to prep your eyes before applying makeup as it gives a more flawless finish and awakens the eyes. It is definitely worth it even if you are in a hurry. It is way more effective than a quick morning coffee run! Try Superdefense SPF20 Age Defense Eye Cream £30 clinique.co.uk

Superdefense SPF 20 Age Defense Eye Cream

THE LOOK. The look should be effortlessly gorgeous with the effect of everything looking put together. For the summer smokey eye look just sweep a soft wash of a muted brown eye shadow over your eyelids then lightly apply a soft bronzed pigment into your crease for a statement defined eye. Try Color Riche Les Ombres in Infiniment Bronze £7.99 L'Oreal Paris. (Also you can use your own bronzer to get the look.)

Color Riche Quads E3 Infiniment Bronze

FINISHING TOUCH. Finish off the look by spritzing a makeup setting spray onto your face. This will allow your smokey eye to last through the day and into the summer night... Try All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray £19.50 Urban Decay.

I hope you enjoy creating this look as much as I did as the summer sun slowly, (but surely!) pushes itself over the London skyline this look will definitely get you into the summer mood.

Top Tip: Less is more. An example of this is seen on Blake Lively as she usually rocks the 'au natural' look. So go for the 'Summer Smoky Eye' and pair with a muted lip to really give you that summer glow. Team with a glossy red for show-stopping evening glamour.

Basketball Alert!

Hey Metropolitans,

I have got a trend which will definitely blow up by Spring/Summer 2014: Basketball Chic. It's already taking baby steps into the fashion world with many high street and designer stores bringing the fashion in.
Just for you Metropolitans I have been able to get an interview with a professional personal basketball coach; who teaches basketball players at a professional level before they are accepted into the bigger professional teams across the world from Project Vertical to talk to me about 'Basketball Fashion'.

He recommends a crisp white basketball vest and basketball shorts is a staple if you want to impersonate that basketball look. He commented that "Basketball Fashion is mostly influenced on the basis of Hip-Hop and the 90's. Recommended brands are AND1, Reebok, Adidas, K1X,  etc. However, any outlet with a sport incentive is fine. The benefit of basketball wear is that it is extremely comfortable and also can be worn during work outs and sports activities. Most of my professional trainees wear outfits which with the right accessories can be worn out, expressing Basketball Chic".

I have put together a look to portray 'Basketball Chic'.

The Look:

Other UK Basketball Top
ASOS High Waist Trousers In Twill
ASOS Velvet Quilted Lock Across Body Bag
MAC Ruby Woo

Top Tip: You can swap the heels for a pair of comfy trainers. A good recommendation are the Jordan Taxis to give a sports luxe feel.

Alexa Chung: It

Hey Metropolitans,

I have been addicted to reading these past few weeks and the book that I could not take my eye off was Alexa Chung's book 'It'. It is set in real cloth, hand crafted marble end pages covered in polka dots stripy head & tail bands and luxuriously creamy paper.

The structure of this book is all over the place; but as you read on you realise that you have taken a venture into Alexa's life. From an awkward horse-riding pre-teen to a *frow (front row at fashion shows) worthy fashion icon.
She does not consider herself as an 'It' girl, and goes through her journey of becoming the celebrity she is today. Alexa Chung's awkwardness is visual throughout the book also portraying a childlike persona. It depicts her as your not everyday It girl. However, if you are hoping this book will transform you into an It girl you will be disappointed, because Alexa does not even remember how she got there herself.

You can tell she is cringing while in the discussion of “How to take a selfie”. It gives an honest account of how she awkwardly hides behind the camera as she poses in the mirror. She also describes where she got her style inspirations from. Influences such as  Liv Taylor to Wednesday Addams from the Addams family, and states how much she is inspired by someone she has often been compared to: Jane Birkin. Her first style crush was her grandfather, she says: “Grandpa Kwan has serious style. On a typical day he would wear his thick tortoiseshell glasses, brown skinny cords and whatever the latest Nike trainers were. In fact, Grandpa Kwan was a fashion legend.”

It also states how down to earth she really is. One memoir was sitting at the front row of a fashion show and looked at the seat next to her which was reserved for Anna Wintour: “The worst case was when I glanced to see ANNA WINTOUR and then spent a panicky five minutes prepping for her arrival.”

I really enjoyed this book and I would rate it 4/5 it is a vivid insight into her life. She does not take her self too seriously and has made this book into her own. If you are into fashion from an icon's perspective you will enjoy and pick up some tips on the way.

Expressionism: Emerald City

Hey Metropolitans,

This Expressionism post is going to be based on emerald hues and can be worn from day to night.

It gives off a classy vibe while the neutral accessories allow the emerald to be the centre of attention. The MAC Russian Red lipstick is in great contrast with the bold green and without even having to open your mouth; it does the talking for you! It will have you shining like a jewel!

With an outfit that has such a strong character this look had to be part of Expressionism!

Tip: If you want to make it more casual for during the day swap the heels for classic nude ballet pumps; also making it more comfortable and suitable if you prefer flats compared to heels.
